A Nurse Practitioners is a registered Nurse educated and authorised under section 102 of the Health Practitioner Regulation National Law in Australia to function autonomously and collaboratively in an advanced and extended clinical role. Nurse Practitioners can prescribe medication, examine patients, diagnose illnesses and provide treatment.
Many Nurse Practitioners work in specialised areas, such as Dermatology and Cosmetic Medicine. They are specially trained and skilled at using and interpreting a wide range of diagnostic tools. While NP’s do not perform complexed surgical procedure, NP’s can perform some invasive treatment procedures.
Since becoming a NP, Ruth has completed a Cutting Edge:essential surgical skills course at UWA and is now capable and confident to remove small lesions on the skin and send for pathology. Ruth is also available for skin consults with a medicare rebate as well as referrals to dermatologists and specialists.
Ruth’s scope of practice is Dermatology and Cosmetics.
